Property owners in Milton are responsible for destroying noxious weeds on their property that may have an impact on agricultural or horticultural land.

Weed Control Act

The Weed Control Act of Ontario states that all property owners are responsible for destroying noxious weeds on their property unless the weeds or weed seeds are deemed by the Weed Inspector to be far enough away from any land used for agricultural or horticultural purposes that they do not interfere with that use.

The following are designated as noxious weeds in the Town of Milton:

Canada Thistle Nodding Thistle
Colt's Foot Poison Hemlock
Common Barberry Poison Ivy
Cypress Spurge Proso Millet, Black Seeded
Dodder Ragweed
European Buckthorn Russian Thistle
Goat's Beard Scotch Thistle
Johnson Grass Sow Thistle
Knapweed Nodding Thistle
Leafy Spurge Tuberous Vetching
Velvetleaf Yellow Rocket

To report a violation of the Weed Control Act, contact the Town's Weed Inspector at 905-877-1819.

If a property owner fails to comply with the Act, the Town's Weed Inspector may have the weeds destroyed and charge the costs against the land in taxes.

Property Standards By-law

The Town of Milton's Property Standards By-law requires that weeds and grass in excess of 12 inches be cut, trimmed and maintained.
