Trails and Cycling Master Plan

Trails and Cycling Master Plan Update

This Master Plan is a guide for Milton's multi-use, pedestrian and cycling network. It builds upon our existing system of roads and trails, and considers those planned in and surrounding Milton. The types and locations of on-road and off-road cycling facilities are planned to provide connectivity throughout the community for cyclists. It was last updated in 2014. Implementation of the plan will be phased - although the plan identifies priorities for implementation in the next five years, the plan is meant to be responsive to opportunities that may arise with other Town and Regional projects as well as development throughout Milton. Funding of specific recommendations in the plan are subject to approval by Council as part of the budget process.

Master Plan Goal

"To develop a comprehensive and connected network within the Town of Milton of on-road and off-road routes for pedestrians, cyclists and trail users which meets both recreational and commuter/utilitarian needs."

The goal is supported by the following objectives:

  • Build upon the Town's existing system of trails and cycling facilities.
  • Build upon planned routes within the Town and connections from surrounding municipalities.
  • Identify recreational and commuter/utilitarian needs for pedestrians, cyclists and trail users.
  • Establish recommendations and strategic priorities for the Town to consider to increase connectivity within the trails and cycling network.

Background Information

The Town undertakes a review of its Trails and Cycling Master Plan every five years. In December 2012, the Town of Milton retained MMM Group to develop a Trails and Cycling Master Plan Update. The revised Master Plan builds on the Town's existing system of roads and trails and considers those planned in and surrounding Milton. The recreational and commuter needs of the pedestrians, cyclists and trail users who enjoy this network were studied. The study limit included the entire boundary of the Town of Milton, which includes the hamlets of Brookville, Campbellville and Moffat. The Master Plan provides recommendations and strategic priorities for the Town to consider that aim to increase the connectivity within its trail and cycling network.
