Key Dates for the 2014 Municipal Elections

Monday, January 2, 2014 to Friday, September 12, 2014

Nomination forms may be filed by candidates prior to Nomination Day, at any time when the Town Clerk's Office is open (Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) On Nomination Day, September 12, 2014, nomination forms may be filed 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

 

Monday, January 2, 2014 to Wednesday, December 31, 2014

The campaign period begins once a candidate has filed a nomination form, and ends on December 31, 2014. Alternative time periods in effect if the candidate withdraws the nomination, the Town Clerk rejects the nomination, or the candidate extends his/her campaign and is continuing to campaign to erase a deficit.

 

April to May 2014

A mail-in enumeration will be conducted by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC).

 

Monday, June 2, 2014

The Town Clerk shall provide a copy of the vote counting equipment procedures to each candidate.

 

Monday, September 1, 2014

The Town Clerk shall make the list of voters available for election purposes only.

Candidates – Copies of the Voters’ List will be available for pick up.  Candidates will have to confirm the formatting of the Voters’ List prior to picking it up.

Note: Public viewing of the Voters' List will be supervised in order to protect personal information.

 

Tuesday, September 2, 2014 to Friday, September 12, 2014

An individual may make a written application to the Town Clerk to remove another voter’s name from the Voters' List. A Hearing may be required by the Town Clerk to make a determination on the removal of another voter's name from the Voters' List.

 

Tuesday, September 2, 2014 to Monday, October 27, 2014

An individual may make application to the Town Clerk requesting that their name be added, removed or corrected. The application must be approved by the Town Clerk or his designate.

 

Friday, September 12, 2014

Last day for filing nominations. Nomination forms filed on this date may only be filed between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

 Withdrawal of Nominations – before 2:00 p.m.

 

Monday, September 15, 2014

The Town Clerk shall certify filed nomination forms before 4:00 p.m.

 

Monday, September 15, 2014

The Town Clerk shall, immediately after 4:00 p.m., declare any acclaimed eligible candidate(s) to be duly elected.

 

Monday, September 15, 2014 to Monday, October 27, 2014

Voters appointed as voting proxies must apply for their proxy voting certificates in the Town Clerk's Office, or any other place designated by the Town Clerk, during normal business hours unless otherwise provided. On each day of an advance vote, the Town Clerk's Office or any other place designated by the Town Clerk shall be open from Noon to 5:00 p.m. for the purpose of issuing proxy voting certificates.

The Town Clerk shall issue the certificate of maximum campaign spending limits to all certified candidates.

The Interim List of Changes to the Voters’ List is available for pickup at Town Hall.

 

Advance Vote Dates:

Wednesday, October 15, 2014, Saturday, October 18, 2014 and Sunday, October 19, 2014

 Continuous Advance Vote Dates:

 Monday, October 13, 2014 through and including Friday, October 17, 2014

Advance voting hours are 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. for all advance vote locations and dates with the exception of Sunday, October 19, which the poll will close at 5:00 p.m. 

The locations for the advance vote still have to be determined.

 

Monday, October 27, 2014

Voting places are open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

 

Week of October 27, 2014

The Town Clerk shall, as soon as possible after Voting Day, declare the candidate who received the highest number of votes for each office to be elected.

 

Thursday, October 30, 2014

Election signs must be removed within seventy-two (72) hours (3 days).

 

Monday, December 1, 2014

The elected members shall take the declaration of office prior to taking his or her seat. The term of office commences once the declaration of office has been taken. 

 

Wednesday, December 31, 2014

Candidates may not raise funds or incur expenditures beyond this day, unless the candidate is continuing his or her campaign to erase a deficit and has filed the appropriate documentation to do so.

Note:  Town Hall will be closed from December 24, 2014 to January 1, 2015.

 

Wednesday, December 31, 2014

Candidates, if in a deficit, may extend their campaign period by submitting a Form 6 (extension of campaign period form) to the Town Clerk no later than 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 (subject to Festive Closure).

 

Thursday, March 26, 2014

This is the last day a candidate may apply to the Ontario Court of Justice to have their financial filing deadline extended for a maximum of 90 days.

 

Friday, March 27, 2014

To be filed with the Town Clerk by 2:00 p.m.  The statement covers the period from the day the candidate filed their nomination paper until December 31, 2014.

 

Tuesday, June 30, 2014

Candidates who extended their campaign to erase a deficit are responsible for filing a supplementary financial filing.  This filing covers the day the candidate filed their nomination paper until June 30, 2015.
