Vacancies on boards or committees are advertised in local newspapers. You can use the Application Form on this website or obtain the application form and detailed descriptions of the various boards and committees from the Clerk's Office at Town Hall.
Code of Conduct
All citizen board and committee members will be required to sign a Code of Conduct upon appointment. The Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee has a separate Code of Conduct.
The following boards and committees have citizen appointments:

Committee of Adjustment and Consent (Term of Council)
The Committee of Adjustment and Consent is composed of five Milton residents who are appointed by Council for a term concurrent with the term of Council. The Committee meets once each month to consider applications for:
- Minor variances from the provisions of the Zoning By-law
- Extensions, enlargements or variations of existing, legal non-conforming uses
- Land division (separating a new lot, adding land to an existing lot)
Community Services Advisory Committee (Term of Council)
The Community Services Advisory Committee (CSAC) was established by Town Council to provide a forum for public input and consultation on a broad range of programs and services delivered by the Town of Milton. This committee provides input on community services issues in the Town's program areas of Community Services, Fire and Transit. This committee provides their input to Milton Council through the Standing Committee of Council that deals with community service issues. For more information, please call 905-878-7252, ext. 2580.
Downtown Business Improvement Area (Term of Council)
Town Council has given the Downtown Business Improvement Area (DBIA) the authority for the improvement, beautification and maintenance of municipally owned lands, buildings and structures in a designated downtown business area. Committee members focus on issues relating to the DBIA. For more information, please call 905-876-2773.
Heritage Milton (Term of Council)
Heritage Milton provides advice and assistance to Town Council, the Planning and Development Department and private property owners on matters relating to the conservation of the community's historic buildings and architectural heritage. This committee is made up of private citizens, elected representatives and municipal staff who act as volunteers to:
- Promote heritage conservation
- Provide educational historical information
- Maintain an inventory of historic properties and features
- Provide help to owners researching the history of their properties.
- Providing information about rehabilitation and restoration techniques
Milton Youth Advisory Council
The Milton Youth Advisory Council encourages youth to participate and have a voice in the Milton community to foster a positive image for all young people. For more information, call 905-875-1681 ext 2705.
Milton Accessibility Advisory Committee (Term of Council)
The Milton Accessibility Advisory Committee was created under the authority of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001. This Committee advises and assists the Town in promoting and facilitating a barrier-free community for citizens of all abilities (universal accessibility), including persons with disabilities. Milton Public Library Board (Term of Council)
The Milton Public Library Board has a mandate to provide a comprehensive and efficient public library service that reflects the community's unique needs. For more information, please call 905-875-2665 , ext. 3252.
Milton Seniors' Activity Centre Advisory Board (MSAC)
This Board represents the members of the Milton Seniors' Activity Centre and advises Town staff on issues relating to the Centre's programs and activities. The Board is made up of 12 volunteer members and a representative from Town Council. Board members serve on Centre committees and act as liaisons with activity groups. Milton Transit Advisory Committee (Term of Council)
This Committee reports to Milton Town Council on matters concerning public transit within the Town of Milton, including transit fares, service hours, routes, operating policies, passenger concerns and accessibility to bus stops. For more information, please call 905-878-7252, ext. 2548.
Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee
In accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 (MEA), Town of Milton Council is required to have a Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee to consider compliance audit applications with regard to Candidates’ financial statements file under Section 81 of the MEA for the 2010 election, in accordance with procedures established by the Town Clerk. Trails Advisory Committee (Term of Council)
This Committee helps guide trail development in Milton by considering all aspects of trail design and re-design, as well as implementation, maintenance and promotion. For more information, please call 905-878-7252, ext. 2211.
