The Town of Milton is actively engaged in a campaign to bring a university campus to Milton. Bringing post-secondary education to Milton is a priority approved in the Destiny Milton strategic plan.
The Town has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Wilfrid Laurier University to explore the possibility of establishing a university campus on the 150-acre site. The MOU enables both parties to work together to resolve land-planning issues and to pursue possible funding sources over the next several years.
In an effort to become more engaged in the Milton community, Laurier will be hosting a Laurier Milton Lecture Series. The series, which begins in November 2009, will consist of a free monthly presentation by a member of Laurier’s staff/faculty on topics of varying interest.
On March 31, 2008, Milton Council approved the development of a 150-acre site at Tremaine Road between Derry Road and Britannia Road for a university campus. Council has also approved a series of recommendations to begin the planning process for the Milton Education Village (MEV), to include a university campus and its adjacent neighbourhood.
The Milton Education Village neighbourhood will be developed comprehensively. The university campus will be integrated with its surrounding neighbourhood to possibly include:
The Town will undertake a design charette and work with its partners in government (Halton Region, Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and the Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal) to move forward on this exciting project.
