News Release

Effective February 13, 2019 Milton is pleased to offer enhanced dog licensing services in partnership with DocuPet. Milton’s Animal Control By-law requires that all dog owners obtain a license every year.

Dog owners will now be provided with an enhanced online experience, including automatic renewal options, online pet education, a rewards program, and real-time lost and found animal reporting. Dog owners can now license and renew their pet online at, over the phone at 1 (855) 249-1370, by mail, or in person (Town Hall).

Regardless of whether the licence is purchased online or in person at Town Hall, all licence tags will be mailed to pet owners by DocuPet. Packages should be received within 10 to 12 business days and will include information on pet owner perks, including a $25 gift card for Ren’s Pets and a $25 gift card for PetSmart.

All new dog licence purchases and renewals will be valid for 365 days from the date on which they are purchased. The cost of a licence is $41 for dogs who have been sterilized and $80 for fertile dogs. Dogs who have been microchipped qualify for a discount, as do dog owners who are seniors.
Anyone who has previously licensed a pet with the Town of Milton will receive a reminder from DocuPet by mail with information about how to renew their licence and activate their online account, should they choose.

If residents hold a current pet licence, it will remain valid until its current expiry date. Licence-holders can expect to receive renewal information well in advance of the expiry, but should they want to activate their online account earlier to use the HomeSafeTM Lost Pet Service, they will be able to do so.

“This collaboration with DocuPet is a positive step in enhancing the pet licensing process, supporting proper animal identification, and rewarding responsible pet ownership,” said Mary Beth Mitchell, Manager of Licensing and Enforcement.

“Running an effective licensing program is incredibly important for the welfare of pets. Over the past five years we have helped hundreds of lost pets get back home and are looking forward to our partnership with Milton,” said Grant Goodwin, CEO of DocuPet.
