You need a licence to own or operate a taxi or limousine in the Town of Milton. Review the Taxi and Limousine Licensing By-law to find out all of the licensing requirements.
Get a taxi driver’s licence
Complete the Taxi/Limousine Driver’s Licence Application and submit it to Town Hall, located at 150 Mary St. along with your application fee.
You’ll also need to provide the following documents with your application:
- Driver’s Licence
- Medical Certificate from a doctor
- Police Clearance Check
- Ministry of Transportation – Driver’s Abstract
- Proof of citizenship
- Letter of Employment
All new drivers will need to take a driving test to receive a taxi driver’s licence.
Apply for a taxi owner’s licence
If you’d like to own a taxi or limousine, you need to apply for an owner’s licence. Complete the Taxi/Limousine Owner’s Licence Application and submit it to Town Hall, located at 150 Mary St. along with your application fee.
You’ll need to provide the following documents with your application:
- Business name – proof or registration
- Vehicle ownership
- Vehicle liability insurance (minimum $2 million)
- Vehicle safety – Certificate of Mechanical fitness
- Completed vehicle inspection
- Affiliated brokerage (if necessary)
Broker’s licence
A taxi or limousine broker accepts calls for a taxi or limousine service. If you’d like to become a broker, complete the Taxi/Limousine Broker’s Licence Application and submit it to Town Hall, located at 150 Mary St. along with your application fee.
You’ll need to provide the following details along with your application:
- Vehicle information
- Driver information
- Proof of insurance ($2 million minimum)
- Proof of adequate radio facilities
