Interested in organizing a festival? Planning a charity fundraiser or hosting a community meeting? Looking to rent a Town Facility? Start your planning here.

The Town of Milton has a dedicated Special Events Team. Our mandate is to help guide event organizers through the Town's permitting process. We have created a forum for the submission and review of events to help ensure that yours is safe and compliant.

We'll work with you to ensure your event is operating within the Municipal, Regional, Provincial and/or Federal legislation. In Collaboration with event organizers, we'll help you identify needs, issues and gaps in order to  minimize liability and risk.

The first step to planning your event is to complete our on-line Event Application Form. Upon receipt of your form we'll contact you to discuss next steps.

Information for Large/Special Event Organizers

Form submission deadlines:

Requests for large/special events in Milton may require Council/Committee approval.   Be sure to submit your Event Application Form to us before the deadlines listed here in order to be added to a Committee Agenda for consideration.

Department: Executive Services

Description: The Town of Milton regulates licensing for health & safety, noise, nuisance control, consumer protection and Lottery licensing. Required permits and licenses will be assessed through the Event Application Form.

Insurance

Department: Corporate Services

Description: We will carefully assess the risk associated with the proposed event, and recommend appropriate measures to eliminate or control those risks. Insurance requirements will be assessed through the the Event Application Form.

Building Permits

Department: Planning & Development

Description:The Town of Milton regulates the construction and placement of tents, bleachers, and stages and a building permit is required.

Key Timelines: Building Department requires a minimum 4 weeks for review of building permits

Road Closures, Street Parties & Film Permits

Department:Engineering Department

Description: Transportation & Operations requests for road closure will be processed through the Event Application Form. Road closures may require the use of barricades from Operations Division.

Department: The Sign By-law regulates the size, use, location and maintenance of permanent signs and advertising on private property within the Town of Milton

Description: Milton facility rentals including gyms, meeting rooms, pools, parks, and picnic spaces.

 Key Timelines: Town owned property must adhere to space allocation guidelines/policies and deadline dates.

The Halton Regional Police Service Pay Duty Program enables local residents and business owners to hire uniformed police officers to oversee special events or functions (for police-related duties).

Halton Region's Paramedic Services operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Primary Care Paramedics and Advanced Care Paramedics provide emergency medical services to residents in Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton, and Oakville.

As a coordinator or operator of a special event where foods are prepared, processed, or sold to the public for eating either on or off-site, you will require approval from the Health Department.

Halton Region can provide waste collection tools and assistance to ensure recycling and organic material generated at community events are diverted from the landfill.

Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO): is responsible for regulating Ontario's alcohol, gaming and horse racing sectors in accordance with the principles of honesty, integrity, and in the public interest.

If the property for the event is regulated by the Niagara Escarpment Commission (i.e. Kelso, Country Heritage Park), a Development Permit may be required for any development on the land i.e. tents.

 Electrical Safety Authority Lovo

Electrical Safety Authority

The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) is Ontario's electrical safety regulator, enhancing safety across Ontario by ensuring compliance with the electrical safety code. Larger events that include electrical equipment and large generators require an ESA electrical permit and an electrical inspection in addition to any permits required by local municipalities.
