Town of Milton seeks volunteers for local Boards and Committees

The Town of Milton invites you to provide input on issues affecting your community by volunteering for one of the following Committees/Boards. Volunteers will be required to serve a four-year term, which runs concurrent with the term of Milton Council, until successors are appointed.

Generally, qualified applicant(s) must be:

  • A resident of the Town of Milton, or;
  • An owner or tenant of land in the municipality, or the spouse of such an owner or tenant;
  • A minimum of 18 years of age on the date of appointment;
  • Employee(s) of a business located in the municipality or student(s) attending a school located in the Town of Milton

Community Fund Advisory Committee

The mandate of this committee is to provide guidance and recommendations related to the Milton Community Fund Program, and to provide input for award programs. Your knowledge of the community in the areas of recreation, culture, arts and/or sports will be of value in the grant making process.

Committee of Adjustment and Consent

The Committee is established under the Planning Act with a mandate to consider applications for: minor variances from the Zoning By-law; changes to legal non-conforming buildings, structures and land uses; land division (consent to sever land). The Committee is also responsible for hearing appeals of Orders issued under the Town’s Property Standards By-law.

Applicants should have knowledge in one or more areas of: law, planning, architecture, government, economic development, community development, land development, environmental planning or citizen advocacy.

Mattamy National Cycling Centre – Management Committee

The mandate of this Committee is to provide meaningful and regular guidance to the Town of Milton regarding the management of the Mattamy National Cycling Centre. This committee will strive to ensure that the facility operates as a cycling first facility, while recognizing and providing for the non-cycling uses of the facility, and achieves/maintains financial viability.

Milton Accessibility Advisory Committee

The mandate of this committee is to advise and assist the Town, in promoting and facilitating an inclusive and barrier-free Town for citizens of all abilities, including persons with disabilities.

A majority of members must be citizens with disabilities. Other members should have an interest in matters regarding persons with disabilities.

Milton Public Library Board

The Milton Public Library Board provides oversight and governance for the Milton Public Library system, in accordance with the Public Libraries Act and as authorized by Milton Council. In summary, the Library Board’s mandate is to provide a comprehensive and efficient public library system, with services that reflect the community’s needs via the establishment of policies leading to the successful operation of the system.

Desirable skills include experience in the development of strategic plans and recent experience on a public library or not for profit board.

Please submit a resume, along with the application form.

Completed application forms must be received at the Office of the Town Clerk no later than Monday, January 14, 2019 by 4:30 p.m.
