In May 2019 with the support of lead donor, FirstOntario Credit Union, the Every Milton Child Every Year Arts Program funded more than 1,100 students and educators from Milton schools to visit the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton for an interactive performance. Students experienced an inspirational performance by award-winning hip hop artist Shaun Boothe, telling the life stories of cultural icons through original biographical rap songs.

The students’ electrifying energy inspired the renaming of the program to ArtSparks powered by FirstOntario, a moniker more reflective of the program’s impact on students.

“Art helps spark new ways of perceiving and relating to the world and our ability to connect with others,” said Manager of Cultural Services, Carly Anderson. “We are happy that ArtSparks powered by FirstOntario will continue to expose local students to new and different art forms, for free on an annual basis.”

“Arts, recreation and culture are vital components to our communities and we know these kinds of experiences ignite passion and energy into everyone who gets involved. ArtSparks is a reflection of that,” said Lloyd Smith, CEO at FirstOntario. “Supporting the arts and great programs like ArtSparks provide social and academic benefits that create a lasting impact – something that is important to us as a credit union.”

In the spring of 2020, the program will provide grade 8 students with an enriched arts experience through guided dance workshops and performances by the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre. The aim is for the program’s fund, which is held by Community Foundation Halton North, to be able to support all grades 1 – 8 students with an arts-based experience on an annual basis.

The FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton is set to host the Fall Ball Fundraising Gala on Saturday, September 21, 2019 with all of the proceeds benefitting ArtSparks. Gala tickets are $125 and will feature a performance by The Dreamboats, among other fun surprises with a 1950’s theme.
