Posted on Thursday January 28, 2016

News release -

The Milton Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC) is celebrating and recognizing the contributions of young people in the Milton community, as well as businesses and individuals who support youth, through seven youth awards. The purpose of the awards is to create awareness of the valuable contributions that youth make in the community and highlight the Town’s next generation of potential leaders.

"The new generation is looking at our world in different ways. They’re rising to new opportunities and challenges that never existed before," said Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. "Milton has a great population of young innovators, thinkers and achievers. It’s important to acknowledge and celebrate our youth, as they represent the direction of our future."

Milton youth between the ages of 13 to 18 years are eligible to be nominated for award categories that include Painting a Path Award, Environmental Award, Unity in Diversity Award, Community Leadership Award, Personal Triumph Award and the Group Nomination Award. Adults and businesses who work in support of youth are eligible for the Champion of Youth Award.

Members of MYAC determined the seven award categories and the eligibility criteria, and will be hosting a recognition event on May 4 for all nominated individuals and award recipients during National Youth Week, which takes place May 1 - 7.

The application deadline is March 6, 2016. Nomination packages are available at Town facilities and online at www.miltonyouth.ca. More information is available by calling 905-875-5393, ext. 2611.
