On June 22, 2021, Town of Milton Council approved the Milton Fire Department’s Master Plan, which includes recommendations to ensure effective and efficient fire protection services in Milton now and in the future.

The Fire Master Plan provides Council and senior staff with a strategic planning framework to deliver fire protection services over the next 10 years, as Milton is expected to reach a population of 219,900 by 2031.

"On behalf of Council, thank you to our dedicated Fire Department staff for their commitment to protecting our community each and every day," said Mayor Gord Krantz. "The Fire Master Plan addresses the needs of our growing community while ensuring we can enhance our delivery of fire protection, public education and prevention services now and in the future.”

This Fire Master Plan is guided by:

  1. Public education and prevention
  2. Fire Safety Standards and enforcement
  3. Emergency response (fire suppression)

“The approval of the new Fire Master Plan will help ensure that the Milton Fire Department is well positioned to deliver core fire protection and emergency services to the community,” said Peter Gatto, Fire Chief.

Key actions from the Plan include:

  • Developing a hiring strategy to staff the existing urban Fire Stations
  • Creating proactive inspection and public education cycles
  • Establishing emergency response performance benchmarks 
  • Planning for the construction of Fire Stations 6 and 7
  • Enhancing the Fire Department’s diversity and inclusion efforts
