A Message from the Mayor

The past eight months have presented new challenges for our residents and local businesses. I am proud to be part of such a resilient community that has stood together through the COVID-19 pandemic and these uncertain times. Thank you to each and every member of our community for your collective efforts to reduce the spread of the virus over these past months.

With new COVID-19 cases rising in Halton Region and throughout Ontario, it’s critical that we, as a community do our part to keep Milton healthy and safe. All of us remain the first line of defense against the spread of the virus and with everyone’s cooperation, we will get through this together.

We must continue to follow public health guidelines to keep our community, especially the most vulnerable members, safe and healthy. Stopping the spread is, and must be, a community effort.

It’s imperative that we practice the fundamental public health guidelines, and direction from the Medical Officer of Health, to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 in our community. This is a common time of year where illnesses circulate, so our vigilance in following public health measures is critical.

Public health experts strongly recommend that we only have close contact with those living in the same household and that we maintain a two-metre distance from those outside of our household. When physical distancing cannot be maintained, we must wear non-medical masks or face coverings and as always, wash our hands frequently and stay home when feeling sick. Small businesses are the backbone of our community and they need our help now more than ever. Businesses are operating according to COVID guidelines, so while limiting outings, think about a local business that you can help through online purchases, delivery, or takeout. There’s no denying that it’s been a tough year and as a community, we need to support one another and collectively support our local businesses so that our family, friends and neighbours can keep working.

As our partners in healthcare, the Province of Ontario and Halton Region Public Health guide the Town’s COVID-19 protocols that protect the health and safety of the community and staff, while accessing municipal services. Your health and safety is the absolute top priority for myself, Milton Council and Town staff. We continue to monitor the evolving pandemic and adjust services as necessary.
