Events on Public Property

A public event on Town property—such as a festival, fundraiser, cultural celebration, or community gathering—may require permits, licences, and approvals.

This page applies to events held on public property in Milton. Requirements vary depending on your event’s size, location, and activities.

Use this page to understand what applies to your event, how to apply, and what to expect during the process.

Who this is for

This information applies to events that:

  • Takes place on public property such as in a park, on a roadway, or at a Town-owned facility

  • Is open to the general public

  • Is advertised through websites, social media, signage, or news media

  • May impact traffic, nearby neighbourhoods, or public safety

  • May require approval from a regulatory agency (for example, the Town, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, or Halton Region Public Health)

If your event is on private property, see events on private property.

Event applications

Depending on the size of your event, it may require approval from the Special Events Team.

Submit your application as early as possible.

Before you apply, confirm that your event space has been tentatively booked. For Town-owned spaces, bookings must be made through the Facility Booking office.

Important: Events on private property that are open to the public require a transient trader licence, not a special events application.

Fees

Fees vary depending on your event, including facility rentals, required permits, and insurance.

Fees will be confirmed during the application review.

After you apply

After you submit your application, we will contact you with next steps.

This may include:

  • Reviewing insurance requirements

  • Identifying required permits and licences

  • Confirming any additional approvals

Please note: Processing timelines vary depending on event size and required permits.
