Boards and Committees

Overview 

Boards and committees help guide decisions and shape the future of the Town of Milton. These groups bring together residents, Council members, and subject matter experts to provide advice, review applications, and support community initiatives. Joining a board or committee is an opportunity to share your perspective, contribute to your community, and help inform local decision-making. 

On this page, you can learn what each board or committee does and how you may be able to get involved. 

Applications for citizen appointments are currently closed for this term of Council. 

How to participate 

Residents can apply to serve on a board or committee during recruitment periods. 

You may be eligible if you: 

  • Live in Milton 

  • Have relevant experience or interest in the committee’s focus area

Boards and committees 

The Town of Milton has several boards and committees, each with a specific role. The following list outlines their responsibilities and areas of focus. 

Committee of Adjustment and Consent 

The Committee of Adjustment and Consent reviews applications for minor variances from the zoning by-law, as well as certain land division applications. 

Requirements: General eligibility. Applicants should have knowledge in areas such as law, planning, architecture, government, economic development, community development, land development, environmental planning, or citizen advocacy. 

Community Fund Advisory Committee 

The Community Fund Advisory Committee makes recommendations to Town staff about funding through the Milton Community Fund and related programs. 

Compliance Audit Committee 

The Compliance Audit Committee reviews and responds to audit applications related to municipal election campaign financing, in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act. 

Downtown Business Improvement Area 

The Downtown Business Improvement Area supports the improvement, beautification, and maintenance of municipally owned lands, buildings, and structures within the downtown business area. 

Mattamy National Cycling Centre Management Committee 

The Mattamy National Cycling Centre Management Committee oversees the operation of the Mattamy National Cycling Centre to support long-term financial sustainability. 

Milton Accessibility Advisory Committee 

The Milton Accessibility Advisory Committee provides advice to Council on improving accessibility and removing barriers for people with disabilities in the community. 

Requirements: General eligibility. A majority of members must be individuals with disabilities. Other members should have an interest in accessibility and inclusion. 

Milton Hydro 

Milton Hydro Board of Directors oversees Milton Hydro Distribution Inc. and its subsidiaries. The board is responsible for protecting shareholder interests and setting the organization’s financial and capital structure.  

Milton Public Library Board 

The Milton Public Library Board provides governance and financial oversight for library services, policies, and strategic direction.  

Requirements: General eligibility. Experience in strategic planning and recent experience on a public library or not-for-profit board is preferred. 

Milton Youth Task Force 

The Milton Youth Task Force provides a forum for youth to share their perspectives and contribute to local decision-making. The group advises Council on youth-related initiatives, programs, and priorities.  

Property Standards Appeal Committee 

The Property Standards Appeal Committee hears appeals related to orders issued by Property Standards Officers for properties that do not meet minimum requirements under the Town’s Property Standards By-law. 

Requirements: General eligibility. Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code Act and an understanding of municipal law practices are considered assets.
