Overview 

The Town of Milton issues property tax bills twice a year to fund local services such as roads, parks, and community programs. Your interim tax bill is issued at the end of February, and your final tax bill is issued at the end of June. If you do not receive your tax bill during these time periods, please contact the Town. Penalty and interest may apply to late payments. 

This page explains when your taxes are due, how to make a payment, and how to manage your account online.

Who this is for 

This information is for: 

  • Property owners in Milton 

  • Residents responsible for paying their own property taxes 

If your mortgage company pays your property taxes, you will receive a final bill for your records only. 

When to pay 

Make your payment by the due dates listed on your bill to avoid penalties. 

For 2026, payments are due on: 

  • Feb. 27, 2026 (last business day of February) 

  • April 30, 2026 (last business day of April) 

  • June 30, 2026 (last business day of June) 

  • Sept. 29, 2026 (last business day of September) 

Manage your property taxes online 

The easiest way to manage your property taxes is through the Town’s secure tax portal. 

Through the portal, you can: 

  • Set up or update pre-authorized (autopay) payments 

  • View your account balance and payment history 

  • Go paperless and receive digital tax notices

Set up Autopay 

Enroll in a Pre-Authorized Payment Plan (PAP) through the Property Tax Portal to ensure your property taxes are paid on time.

Review the dates below for the Autopay plan you are applying for:

Monthly End Plan

If you apply between (day of month) Your Autopay withdrawal starts
1st - 23rd Last business day of current month
24th - month end Last business day of next eligible month

Monthly Mid Plan

If you apply between (day of month) Your Autopay withdrawal starts
1st - 8th 15th of current month*
9th - month end 15th of next eligible month*

Semi-Monthly Plan

If you apply between (day of month) Your Autopay withdrawal starts
1st - 8th 15th of current month*
9th - 23rd Last business day of current month

Instalment Plan

* Program start dates scheduled for the 15th that fall on a weekend/holiday will be moved to the next business day.

Change or cancel autopay 

If you are currently enrolled in autopay, you can manage your plan through the tax portal. 

  • Update your banking information online 

  • Cancel your autopay plan at any time 

Please note a minimum of 7 days’ notice prior to your next scheduled withdrawal date is required for bank account changes or cancellations.

Make a payment

You can pay your property taxes using one of the following payment methods.

Pay your property taxes through your bank’s online banking service or in person at your financial institution.  

To pay online: 

  • Add the Town of Milton as a payee 

  • Enter your 15-digit roll number (excluding the "2409" prefix), as shown on your property tax bill.

Mail your property tax payment by cheque to:

Make cheques payable to the Town of Milton. You may post-date your cheque to match the due date on your bill.  

Send your payment early to ensure it is received on time. Late payments are subject to penalties.

You can pay your property taxes in person at Town Hall during regular business hours: 

Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. 

Property tax payments can be made by cheque or debit only. Cash and credit cards are not accepted.. You can still use cash at your financial institution.

After-hours drop box 

You can drop off your payment at Town Hall outside business hours using the secure drop boxes located at: 

  • Mary Street entrance 

  • King Street entrance 

If you are dropping off a payment after hours, you must pay by cheque. 

If your mortgage company pays your property taxes, you must make arrangements with them to ensure your payments are made on time. 

Contact your mortgage company to: 

  • Confirm how your property taxes are being paid 

  • Set up or update your payment arrangements, if needed 

You are still responsible for ensuring your property taxes are paid in full and on time.

You can pay your property taxes online by credit card through a third-party service provider. 

These providers are not affiliated with the Town of Milton. Before making a payment, review the provider’s: 

  • Service fees 

  • Processing times 

  • Terms and conditions 

Cash is not accepted for property tax payments. 

Always allow enough time for your payment to be received. Late payments are subject to penalties.

Late payments 

Payments must be received by the Tax Office on or before the due date. 

  • A penalty of 1.25 per cent is added on the first day of default 

  • An additional 1.25 per cent is added on the first day of each following month 

Payments are applied first to outstanding interest, then to the oldest outstanding taxes. 

The Town may charge a fee to issue an overdue notice, in accordance with the User Fee By-law.

New or moving to Milton 

If you recently moved to Milton or purchased a new property, your tax account number (roll number) will change. 

If you set up payments through online banking, be sure to update your roll number. You can find this number on your tax bill.
