Pay a Ticket

If you receive a parking ticket or penalty notice in Milton, you can pay the penalty or request a review. The Administrative Penalties System (APS) provides a municipal process for resolving parking tickets and certain by-law violations without going through Provincial Offences Court.

APS is designed to provide a faster and more flexible way to manage parking tickets and penalty notices. The information below explains your payment options, how to request a review, and what happens if you do not respond by the required deadline.

Dispute a parking ticket or penalty notice

If you believe a parking ticket or penalty notice was issued in error, you can request a review. You must either pay the penalty or request a review within 30 days of the violation date to avoid additional fees.

There are two options available to dispute a parking ticket or penalty notice. Review each option carefully before proceeding.

If you require accommodation, notify staff at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment.

1. Screening review

A screening review is the first step in the dispute process. A screening officer will review your case and determine whether the penalty should be upheld, reduced, or cancelled.

A screening officer may:

  • Reduce the penalty amount

  • Provide additional time to pay

  • Cancel the penalty

If you disagree with the screening officer's decision, you may request a hearing review.

Request for Disclosure

A Request for Disclosure must be received by the Town at least 10 business days before your scheduled screening or hearing appointment. It is your responsibility to follow up on the status of your request.

2. Hearing Review

If you disagree with the screening officer's decision, you may request a hearing review. A hearing review can only be requested after the screening process has been completed. A hearing officer will review the case and make a final decision regarding the penalty notice.

The hearing officer's decision is final.

Request for Disclosure

A Request for Disclosure must be received by the Town at least 10 business days before your scheduled screening or hearing appointment. It is your responsibility to follow up on the status of your request.

Town staff will contact you within five business days after a hearing request is submitted.

Failure to respond to a parking ticket or penalty notice

If you do not respond to a parking ticket or penalty notice by the required deadline, you automatically waive your right to a review. The administrative penalty becomes payable and is no longer subject to review.

Administrative fees for processing penalties may include:

  • After 30 days, a $12 Ministry of Transportation (MTO) search fee

  • After 60 days, a $36 late payment fee

  • After 75 days, a $31 plate denial registration fee

  • $60 screening no-show fee for failing to attend a scheduled screening

  • $118 hearing no-show fee for failing to attend a scheduled hearing

  • $118 adjournment fee when requested during a hearing review

  • $23 fee for documents sent by registered mail

  • $10 fee for documents sent by regular mail

  • $153 fee when a Corporate Search is required to identify a business

  • $143 fee when a Parcel Search is conducted to confirm property ownership

If the penalty notice and any administrative fees remain unpaid, a notice of default may be sent to the Ministry of Transportation, which may result in your Ontario vehicle permit renewal being denied.
