Municipal Consent Permit

Utility companies and infrastructure owners must obtain a Municipal Consent Permit before installing infrastructure such as cables, conduits, or pipes. This includes any work that involves digging up or disturbing a boulevard, sidewalk, or roadway.

Each application is reviewed individually based on location and scope of work. Work cannot begin until the permit has been approved. Please note that the Town does not issue permits for work on Regional roads. You must confirm the road’s jurisdiction before applying.

  • Utility companies 

  • Developers and contractors installing infrastructure 

  • Infrastructure owners working within the road allowance

  • Each application is assessed individually based on location and impacts to existing infrastructure 

  • Work cannot begin until the permit is approved
     

Jurisdiction 

  • The Town does not issue permits for work on Regional roads 

  • You must verify the road’s jurisdiction before applying

To complete your application, you may need: 

  • Project and location details 

  • Description of proposed work (e.g., trenching, installation) 

  • Confirmation of circulation and approvals from applicable agencies 

  • Supporting plans or drawings (if applicable)
     

How to apply 

Follow these steps to request a municipal consent permit: 

  1. Confirm the work is within a Town of Milton road allowance. 

  1. Circulate your application to relevant PUCC members for review and sign-off. 

  1. Prepare your project details and any required supporting documents. 

  1. Respond to any follow-up requests during review.
     

Processing time 

Processing times vary depending on the complexity of the project and coordination requirements. 

  • Applications are reviewed individually 

  • Additional time may be required for circulation and approvals 

  • Work cannot begin until approval is issued
     

After you apply 

Once your application is submitted: 

  • Staff review the submission for completeness and coordination requirements 

  • You may be contacted for additional information or clarification 

  • Once approved, you will receive confirmation and can proceed with the work
