Bike and Ride

Overview

Milton Transit allows riders to bring bicycles on buses using front-mounted bike racks. This service supports combining cycling and public transit for travel within the community. All buses are equipped with bike racks, and there is no additional cost to use them.

This page explains how to use the bike racks and outlines important guidelines to follow before and during your trip.

Using the bike racks

Bike racks are located on the front of all Milton Transit buses. You are responsible for loading and unloading your bicycle. Review the instructions below before using the bike rack. Detailed step-by-step guidance is provided on each rack.

Follow these steps to safely secure your bicycle:

  1. Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop.

  1. Tell the bus operator you will be loading your bike.

  1. Lower the rack by squeezing the handle.

  1. Lift your bike onto the rack and place it in the tire grooves closest to the bus.

  1. Pull the support arm up and over the front tire to secure the bike.

  1. Board the bus.

  1. Check your bike as needed during your trip.

Follow these steps to safely remove your bicycle:

  1. Exit the bus from the front door and tell the bus operator you will be unloading your bike.

  1. Approach the rack from the curb side and lower the support arm.

  1. Lift your bike out of the tire grooves. If no other bikes remain, fold the rack up and secure it.

  1. Move your bike to the sidewalk.

  1. Let the bus operator know you have finished unloading.
