If you want to advertise a sale, event, or promotion using a temporary portable sign in Milton, you must apply for a portable sign permit before displaying the sign. 

Portable sign permits help ensure signage is placed safely, meets zoning requirements, and does not create visual clutter or safety concerns in the community.

Sign placement guidelines 

Portable signs are only permitted on land zoned for commercial, industrial, or institutional use, as outlined in the Portable Sign By-law. 

When placing a portable sign, follow these guidelines: 

  • Only one portable sign is allowed per frontage 

  • A sign can be displayed for a maximum of 21 consecutive days 

  • You must wait 7 days before placing a new sign after removing the previous one 

These rules help ensure signage remains temporary and does not interfere with visibility or surrounding properties.

How to apply 

  1. Submit your application at least 72 hours before displaying your sign. 

  1. Wait for review and approval.

After you submit your application, Town staff will review your request. 

Once approved, you can place your portable sign according to the approved dates and guidelines.
