News release

The Town of Milton wants your help to develop a vision that will transform Main Street East near the Milton GO Station, as the area transitions into our future Uptown.

Main Street East connects Milton’s arts district in the east to its historic downtown in the west. It is envisioned as a landmark street and a destination within Uptown, the Milton GO Station area.

The area’s transformation follows years of work. In 2022, Milton Council approved policies to deliberately manage the Milton GO Station area’s growth and development, including building heights, density, land use, parking, urban design and open space.

The Town’s Mobility Hub Study shared key recommendations for the future of Main Street East:

  • Transition from an automobile-oriented street to a green corridor, supporting seamless movement between all modes of transportation and placing special priority on accessibility and safety.
  • Enhance the public realm along Main Street East through widened sidewalks, cycling infrastructure and active building frontages.
  • Serve as a green corridor prioritizing cyclists and pedestrians.
  • Create more welcoming and functional spaces.

Reimagining Main Street East will establish the vision, principles, and components to guide the future design and reconstruction of the Main Street East corridor and illustrate our collective vision for the corridor.

With Uptown, the Milton GO Station area, poised to welcome significant new developments, the Town welcomes public input to generate a vision for the corridor that builds on recent studies and policies.

Public engagement will collect site-specific ideas about Uptown’s existing conditions and opportunities; review draft images of its potential design; and will lead to detailed study and design of Main Street East.
