ARU Resources

To help residents better understand the ARU program, the Town of Milton hosted a virtual information session on Oct.  21, 2025. Residents who are unable to attend the upcoming in-person session can view the virtual session presentation. For more ARU information visit Milton.ca/aru.

Background

At the Sept. 8 Council meeting, staff were directed to:

  • Host a public information session

  • Continue public education about ARUs over the next three years

  • Communicate future compliance expectations and timelines

In March 2025, the Town introduced an ARU registration program. The program records critical emergency response information for Fire and Rescue Services to help ensure occupant safety and compliance with the Ontario Fire Code, municipal regulations, and zoning by-laws.

In June 2024, Council approved changes to the Official Plan and zoning by-laws to allow ARUs in Milton’s urban areas, aiming to increase the housing supply and provide more affordable housing options. ARUs in rural areas are still under review.
