
The 2026 budget supports immediate and long-term investments in the community and the Town’s operations. The highlights below reflect how the 2026 investments are aligned with the Town’s 2023-2027 Strategic Plan.
Invest in people
- Adding new staff in key areas, including fire protection and traffic safety.
Innovate in technology and process
- Upgrading the Town’s computer-aided dispatch system to improve emergency response.
- Continuing upgrades to networking infrastructure, power, and communications across all Town facilities.
- Ongoing work on multi-year projects launched in previous capital budgets — including the Next-Generation 911 emergency communications and dispatch system, property tax system and public portal, financial management system, and website redevelopment — with several expected to launch in 2026.
Quality facilities and amenities
- Beginning construction of Apple Park Village Square in the Boyne area.
- Redeveloping Rotary Park, Wallbrook Park, Harwood Park, and Barclay Park
- Planned facility improvements for various recreation facilities including:
- Roof and other upgrades at Memorial Arena
- Pool and building upgrades at Milton Sports Centre
- Children’s area and conversion of lounge to makerspace and program room at Beaty Branch Library
- Various upgrades at the Leisure Centre, Mattamy National Cycling Centre, and FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton
Connected transit and mobility
- Continuing investments in transit, including annualization of new Sunday services and extended weekday service introduced in 2025.
- Expanding transit service within the Boyne, Derry Green, and the Milton Education Village starting in September 2026.
- New bus purchases in 2025 to continue to expand growth-related service in 2027.
- Road construction, including:
- Urbanization of Fifth Line (Derry Road to Britannia Road)
- Intersection upgrades in urban Milton
- Road rehabilitation on Morobel Drive (Steeles to north end), Pearl Street (Commercial to east End), and 5 Side Road (Dublin to Regional Road 25)
- Continuing maintenance through annual asphalt overlay and resurfacing programs.
- Investing in active transportation including new Boyne trails and LED trail lighting.
- Installing pedestrian crossovers, speed cushions, and new streetlights as part of the traffic and road safety program.
- Completing a review of traffic safety services.
Planned Community Growth
- Adding firefighters and a new pumper truck to improve capacity to manage high-rise and multi-residential building incidents.
- Starting a space audit and conceptual plan for the Main Branch Library to support future population growth.
- Launching a library outreach vehicle to extend library services to underserviced and growing communities, seniors’ residences, rural areas, and community events.
- Developing a Complete Street Design Manual to guide future infrastructure that supports safety, accessibility, and multi-modal travel.
