The administration of the Town of Milton is organized by six departments:

Community Services

The Community Services Department provides a wide range of safe and accessible programs and services to enhance the quality of life and the environment in this community.

Responsibilities of Community Services

Arts and Culture

Corporate Services 

The Corporate Services Department provides a wide variety of administrative and financial services to all departments of the Town and to the public in general. The department provides budgeting, accounting, payroll and some purchasing services to the Milton Public Library Board. The department also provides accounting service to the Milton Business Improvement Area.

The Engineering Services Department is designed to provide seamless service delivery to residents and businesses in engineering-related matters.

Roads and Parks Maintenance, and Operations

  • Day-to-day maintenance of local and regional roads, parks and sports fields
  • Winter control operations, including snow plowing/removal and sanding/salting
  • Installation and maintenance of roads-related signage
  • Installation and maintenance of ditching and drainage systems
  • Surface treatment, shoulder repair and dust control on rural roads

Development Engineering

  • Review and approval of engineering drawings and reports for all new residential and industrial development, which includes subdivisions, site plans and condominiums
  • Administration of all subdivision/ condominium agreements
  • Participation as a commenting agency for all Development Engineering Applications
  • Inspection of all subdivision and site plan municipal services (storm sewers, roads, curb, sidewalk, grading, etc.)
  • Project management of Secondary Master Plans for stormwater management and servicing, including the environmental monitoring programs for each Secondary Plan

Executive Services  

The Executive Services Department is made up of several divisions: Mayor, Chief Administrative Officer, Town Clerk and Economic Development.

The Executive Services Department exercises general control and management of the administration of the local government (through five Departments), and affairs of the Corporation consistent with the Municipal Act and related legislation. The CAO also acts as a liaison with the Strategic Management Team.

Milton Fire Department

Planning and Development Services

Through establishing land use policies, evaluating development applications and issuing building permits, the Planning and Development Department strives to balance environmental, social, cultural and economic factors.

Responsibilities of the Planning and Development Department

The Planning and Development Department is composed of Policy Planning, Development Review and Building Services. The Department establishes policies, regulations and standards guiding land use and development in Milton and ensures compliance with provincial building regulations. Services provided by this department include:

Public meetings

As part of the processing of development applications, the Planning Act requires that a "Public Meeting" be held. Statutory notice of these meetings is provided as required by the Planning Act. In addition, copies of the current public notices are posted on the Town's website for residents' information.

Open houses and workshops

Open houses and workshops may be held in connection with other planning matters; public input is invited. The notices for these events will include information on how members of the public can become involved.
