News release

The Town of Milton continues to provide a foundation for planned growth across the community through the development and maintenance of high quality infrastructure.

Milton continues to plan and build infrastructure that supports the changing needs of our community as we prepare for a future with higher density, mixed-use neighbourhoods that offer an excellent quality of life.

In 2022, according to the Town’s annual performance report to Council, infrastructure investments included:

  • Adding more than 20 km of storm sewer lines and 390 storm sewers.
  • Installing six km of walking trails and almost 10 km of bike trails.
  • Increasing the Town’s municipal road network by eight km.
  • Issuing 1,531 new residential and industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) building permits, up 36 per cent from 1,124 permits in the 2021 fiscal year.

Growth is anticipated to continue, bringing with it opportunities such as postsecondary education, varied housing options, enhanced transit, and financial stability for Milton. Planning for growth ensures that any development considers environmental and fiscal factors.

In 2022, the Town began reporting annually on a series of Council-endorsed indicators of municipal service delivery performance. Council has directed Town staff to make sure that planning is deliberate and purposeful.
