The Town of Milton reminds local property owners of their responsibility to destroy noxious weeds that can impact agriculture and horticulture.
The requirement in Ontario’s Weed Control Act R.S.O. 1990 aims to reduce the impact that noxious weeds can have on agriculture and horticulture.
The responsibility to remove noxious weeds applies to lands used to generate income or other benefits to agriculture – not to private lawns, gardens, or areas for personal use.
While the Weed Control Act contains a noxious weeds in Ontario list, in general, a plant is designated a noxious weed when it is difficult to manage; has negative consequences for crop yield or quality; and poses a health risk to livestock and farm workers.
Our weed inspectors can help identify a noxious weed on your property and provide removal recommendations, as defined by the Ontario Weed Control Act.
In some cases, we may need to issue a provincial order against a property owner who refuses to destroy noxious weeds.
We appreciate the co-operation of all residents and property owners.
