The Supreme Court of Canada has declined to hear the appeal filed by the Town and Halton municipalities regarding the CN Intermodal Hub. While we respect the Court’s decision, we remain deeply concerned about the federal government’s approval of a project that will harm the health of residents and negatively impact our local economy.
This is the wrong project in the wrong location.
The courts have affirmed that federal approval does not exempt CN from complying with provincial and municipal planning rules. We continue to explore all legal avenues available to ensure that local and provincial regulations are upheld and respected.
We also call on Prime Minister Carney and our newly elected MP’s through Halton Region to re-examine this project in light of changing economic conditions and growing public health concerns. Communities across the country are prioritizing sustainable development, and we believe this project does not reflect those values.
Our commitment to the people of Milton and Halton Region remains unchanged. I want to thank Halton Region, the City of Burlington, Town of Oakville and the Town of Halton Hills for their on-going support on this issue and to community organizations like Milton Says No and RAIL. Together we will continue to advocate for our residents and pursue all appropriate channels to protect our community’s health and long-term prosperity.
Mayor Gord Krantz
