Milton wins national innovation award for electric bus pilot

At its fall 2025 conference in Montreal, the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) presented the Award for Innovation to the Town for its electric bus pilot project.  

Milton’s transit team partnered with MTB Transit Solutions to successfully convert a diesel bus to electric battery power—the first mid-life bus conversion of its kind in Canada. 

The award recognizes leadership in transit technology, accessibility, service delivery, and sustainability. CUTA called the project “a scalable path to electrification” for small and mid-sized systems. 

“We are thrilled to receive an award that recognizes Milton’s commitment to finding innovative, practical ways to reduce emissions and support a more sustainable future,” said Tony D’Alessandro, Director, Transit Services.
