Project notice

The study

The Town of Milton is proposing a Transit Maintenance and Storage Facility (TMSF), including a bus storage and maintenance building, bus parking areas and provision for future bus electrification. The facility would require a new crossing of a tributary of Sixteen Mile Creek.

The purpose of the facility is to increase transit service levels and improve service reliability by enhancing the capacity to maintain and store vehicles. The facility will allow for expansion of the Milton transit fleet and the eventual transition to battery-electric buses. The need for this facility was identified in the Milton Transit Five-Year Service Plan and Master Plan Update.

As shown on the map, the new facility is proposed to be built at the rear of the property located west of Highway 25 (Regional Road 25/Bronte Road) and south of Britannia Road. This property currently contains the existing Town of Milton Civic Operations Centre (MCOC) along the frontage.

The process

This proposed Project is currently in the Pre-Planning Phase of the Transit and Rail Project Assessment Process (TRPAP) to meet the requirements of the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, O. Reg. 231/08. The TRPAP is a proponent-driven, self-assessment process that provides a defined framework to complete the assessment of environmental effects and decision making within a 120-day period. The TRPAP is anticipated to begin in 2027. A Notice of Commencement will be issued at that time, and a second public engagement meeting will be held. An Environmental Project Report (EPR) will be prepared to summarize the results of TRPAP.

Engage with us – Online Public Engagement

During this Online Public Engagement an information package will be available on the Town website for review. The information package includes an overview of the proposed facility, the TRPAP process, existing site conditions information and preliminary impact assessment. The information package will be available on TMSF project page starting on June 25, 2026. We encourage all comments or questions to be submitted through the project website or by contacting the below members of the Project Team by Aug. 6, 2026.
