The Town of Milton is committed to keeping pedestrians safe. We use a variety of crossings so that pedestrians can move safely through our town.
It is always important for pedestrians to be aware of traffic, follow the rules of the road, and take steps to be seen. Please also use pedestrian crossings whenever available to reduce risks and improve road safety.

Roundabouts
Roundabouts improve traffic flow and reduce collisions.
Roundabout safety tips for pedestrians:
- Step to the curb and wait for a safe gap.
- Make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
- Cross only at designated crosswalks and push pedestrian button if present.
- Wait on the splitter island if needed.
Pedestrian Crossovers
A pedestrian crossover (PXO) is a designated mid-block crossing designed to provide a safe way for pedestrians to cross the road. PXOs help reduce jaywalking and improve overall safety.
PXOs include:
- Marked crossing areas
- Roadside signs
- Pedestrian-activated push buttons
- Flashing lights (at some locations)
Drivers and cyclists must stop and remain stopped until the pedestrian has fully crossed the road.
Failing to obey may result in a fine and three demerit points.
Types of Pedestrian Crossovers (PXOs)
There are three types of PXOs in Milton:
Overhead flashing beacons (Type 2 Level B) |
|
Side-mounted flashing beacon (Type 2 Level C) |
|
Painted, no beacons (Type 2 Level D) |
