The Town of Milton is committed to keeping pedestrians safe. We use a variety of crossings so that pedestrians can move safely through our town.

It is always important for pedestrians to be aware of traffic, follow the rules of the road, and take steps to be seen. Please also use pedestrian crossings whenever available to reduce risks and improve road safety.

Learn more about being a safe pedestrian below.

Roundabouts

Roundabouts improve traffic flow and reduce collisions.

Roundabout safety tips for pedestrians:

  • Pedestrians must cross only at marked crosswalks.

  • Push the pedestrian button if present.

  • Step to the curb and wait for a safe gap.

  • Make eye contact with drivers before crossing.

  • Wait on the splitter island if needed.

Pedestrian Crossovers

A pedestrian crossover (PXO) is a designated mid-block crossing where pedestrians can safely cross the road without jaywalking.

PXOs are marked, with signs, pedestrian-activated push buttons, and flashing lights at some locations

Pedestrians must activate lights when available and cross only when vehicles have completely stopped. Drivers and cyclists must stop and remain stopped until the pedestrian has completely crossed the road. Cyclists must dismount and walk bikes through the crossing.

Failing to obey may result in a fine and three demerit points.

Types of Pedestrian Crossovers (PXOs)

There are three types of PXOs in Milton:
